Wal-Mart’s Political Profits

A memo released by Corporate Accountability International in 2006 challenges Wal-Mart to clean up its political actions, by adhering to the following standards:

  1. Corporations must end financial contributions to political candidates, parties and referenda worldwide.
  2. Corporations must not trade favors with or buy access to local, national, or international officials.
  3. Corporations must honor local control of natural or financial resources.
  4. Corporations must accept policies that protect people, human rights and the environment and must not use trade agreements or governing institutions to preempt policies or use them for private gain.
